Benjamin Dry, born in South Africa, began playing the cello at the age of eight years. After four years he started lessons with Magdalena Roux at the Stellenbosch Music Conservatoire. In 2002 Benjamin attended the Stellenbosch Conservatoire for one year, receiving chamber music coaching and cello lessons. During this period Benjamin was successful in a number of music competitions in South Africa and won a scholarship to attend the Interlochen Arts Academy summer festival in Northern Michigan. This led to four years of study on Scholarship in the US at the Interlochen Arts Academy and the Oberlin Conservatory. Cello teachers in the US were Crispin Campbell, Hans Jorgen Jensen, and Darrett Adkins. Benjamin returned to South Africa in 2007 where he worked on a family biodynamic farm and for two years studied eurythmy, a movement art of music and speech, in Cape Town. In 2014 Benjamin moved to the UK where he has been giving recitals and has performed in the Ruscombe duo with pianist and composer, Geoffrey Poole.
